Then:

Marie Claude was born in Brest (France) from sailing parents, started sailing Optimists at the local sailing school at the age of 7 and at 19 did her first offshore single-handed race.

1981 – the beginning of a two-year adventure in professional sailing, sailing from Brest to Tahiti via England, Canary Islands, Caribbean, islands in the Pacific, and through the Panama Canal.

1983 MC entered the single-handed Figaro race, a key race for gaining media coverage and, subsequently, sponsorship. She competed in this race again in 1987, 1990, and 1991, with respectable results.

At the age of 25, Marie-Claude completed her first successful transatlantic race – Monaco-New York on Lady Elf.

1987 – moved to Hamble to join Maiden as First Mate. Things did not go according to plan and MC did not sail in the Whitbread until 1993-94 on “Heineken”. She competed in this race again for the 1997-1998 edition on “EF Education”.
