Educated: Irvine, Ayrshire.
Sal sailed as a child with her parents and raced with Troon Cruising Club. In the late 70s, Sally sailed as boatswain with Ocean Youth Club Nicholson 55 based in Bangor, Northern Ireland.
The early to mid 80’s were spent in Argyll – working for Fernpoint flotilla Charters and Tarbert boatyard.
In the mid 80’s Sally joined Maiden Great Britain, as she was known then, completing her first transatlantic race on her in 1988.
1989/90 – Completed the WRTWYR
In 1991, she took part in Azores and Back Two Handed Race and finished 2nd.
From 92 – 95 she continued to do yacht deliveries, in 94 married Iain Hunter then in 95 had her first son and moved to the Isle of Arran, where her second son was born in 97.
In 2000, Sally established the ‘Swim School’ at Auchrannie Hotel, Isle of Arran.
Sally continues her work with the Swim School, Hunter yacht deliveries/services and as Active Schools coordinator for Arran. Her pastimes include sailing, riding and traveling with sons to International 49er sailing events.
